Be On Time

by Larry R. Ping II

There are multiple ways in which we can show God that we respect Him.  Obeying His commands (John 14:15) is a large way in which to do so.  A smaller way we can do this is by arriving on time (technically, early) to each and every service.  There seems to be a growing problem with this among God’s people.  To borrow a phrase from James, “brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3:10).  While emergencies arise, as do uncontrollable situations, being late to services should not be a habit.  Consider the results of being late.

1)     It Is Disrespectful Of The Teachers.  Whether it be the adult class or childrens’ classes, the teachers put in an immense amount of time of preparation, as they should.  When somebody comes in late, no matter how late it is, it is very distracting, especially in the childrens’ classes.  We are to hold each other in high regard (Ephesians 4:2,3).

2)     It Is Disrespectful Of God.  God expects us to give our best in every area of our life.  After all, that is what He has done (John 3:16).  When we are habitually late to services, it says a lot about our dedication and devotion, don’t you think?  Would we dare be late to a wedding or a funeral?  Arriving on time to services is the right to start worship in truth and spirit (John 4:24).

3)     It Gives Off A Bad Impression.  Mooresville has visitors at almost every service, and for this we are most thankful.  What do they see as they worship and attend with us?  It most undoubtedly leaves a bad “taste” in their mouth when the back door continually opens late.

As has been said before, being late to any service is a habit…a bad habit.  Habits can be changed, and this is one that needs to change here at Mooresville.  Let us all show the respect due to God and the teachers.  Let us all be mindful that we are setting examples for each other and our children.  Let us start now being early and getting prepared to study about and worship God!
